ATTENTION CMP CLINIC
PARTICIPANTS
PLEASE NOTE SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR 2006
In 2004, due to weather indications, ORPA changed
the schedule during the CMP Clinic. The schedule changed worked
out so well from the competitors' and volunteers' point of view
that ORPA has decided to make the change permanent.
Beginning in 2005, the CMP Clinic, for those who merely wish to
qualify for their CMP M-1 Garand , will be a one day clinic. The
instructional clinic will begin in the auditorium at 7:45 am.
Please note that ALL PARTICIPANTS are required to attend the
auditorium session. At the conclusion of the auditorium session,
all participants will retire to the range for the coached live
fire portion of the clinic. At the conclusion of Saturday's
activities, all participants will be qualified for the purchase
of a CMP issue M-1 Garand. Please note that because of this
change, participants can opt for a one day or two day program. In
the event of inclement weather on Saturday, we expect to be able
to finish the program on Sunday.
Due to the demolition and reconstruction of the pits on Viale
Range, Dates are scarce for the 2006 season. The clinic for 2006
will be held July 1 and 2, 2006. The schedule for the two days
will be similar to 2005. Please contact Barb Smith, Director for
the complete program and information at (614) 475-9336.
For 2006, the ORPA again expects to have M-1 Garands available
for pick up at Camp Perry for those who have qualified AND
completed the required paperwork. We expect that the CMP Store
will be open on Sunday for rifle pick up.
Sunday will be an additional chance to shoot for any who wish to
do so, INCLUDING Volunteers. This year, volunteers will be
allowed to draw an M-1 Garand and shoot the 30 round match on
Sunday. All volunteers who choose to shoot, please say thanks to
Donn "Papa" Conrad on the range. More information for
volunteers will be available in their volunteer packets, which
will be sent in April.
In some past several years, the weather has been very
uncooperative at the Clinic. The change of schedule will have the
additional advantage of providing a backup scheduled range date
in the event of inclement weather on Saturday, so that
participants will still have the opportunity to shoot live fire
on the range. We have had several participants in the past
express concern rega rding cancellation of the qualifying live
fire opportunity. We hope that the new schedule will ensure all
participants the opportunity to complete the live fire portion of
the clinic, even if one day is canceled due to weather.
Please remember our watchword is SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY. We have
a responsibility not only to firing competitors, but those in the
pits, as well as range operations personnel at Camp Perry, which
becomes even more important during bad weather.
