President’s Column

ORPA’s Annual Meeting will be held Sunday November 12, 2017 at the Cardinal Shooting Center. I’d like to invite the membership to attend and see firsthand what your Association has been doing. Committee meetings for each discipline will begin approximately 9:30 am followed by a luncheon and the Annual Meeting at 2pm. You can hear about the year’s accomplishments and the plans for 2018. The election of 11 Trustees will be voted upon by the membership. This will be followed by a short Trustees Meeting solely to elect the officers for 2018. Come on out and be a part of electing your representatives to run your Association.

We are making progress in straightening out the problems with High Power. The largest hurdle we face is finding a Director to run the program. The mistakes made previously, have made the Trustees doubly cautious in vetting a potential director before assigning them to the position. There has been a consensus of the trustees that putting the high power program on hold would be better than to have a poorly run high power program. If you are interested in the position please contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so we can discuss things. We are very close to having a new director to run our 2018 Annual raffle. It’s a bit premature to make an announcement now but they should be in place by the end of the Annual Meeting. We will also have a couple new prizes to announce for 2018 too.

The Trustees have been in talks with the Cardinal Shooting Center to offer new matches for the membership, and also to attract new members. Look for some new matches being announced in the coming months.

I’ve said it before but it bears repeating: we are always looking for new people to help run the Association. In conversations with people they all seem to want more programs offered and to improve what we offer now. Those are great ideas but we need people to implement these new programs. The Trustees are all volunteers and are all very busy with current responsibilities. We need new people to continue the Association’s work, and bring in new ideas with them. I like that we are picking up some young blood to be trustees, but we need even more help to continue the good work we’ve been able to accomplish. But again, we need more good people to continue to move forward.

If you or your club would like to see some coverage in our Gunsmoke newsletter or on our website, why not submit an article? We are always interested in articles about your club and what you’re up to. We encourage you to submit articles, match results, upcoming events, or something about the history and currents events for your club. Submit the information to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (or both!) to see them published. Articles are printed for free, although we do charge for advertising.

Until next time may all your shots be X’s.

Stay safe,
