Hunting

ORPA and ORPA-affiliated clubs offer a few different programs for both novices and experienced hunters.

In October, ORPA sponsors a Pheasant Hunt Challenge at Brier Oak Hunt Club near Bellevue, Ohio. Trophies are awarded to the top three in Flushing Class and Pointing Class. There is a youth category as well.

For youth, several ORPA member clubs provide hunter orientation programs. Every November the Greene County Fish & Game Club near Xenia, Ohio runs a youth pheasant hunt with support from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). The day begins with a hunter education course, followed by trap shooting, and culminating with a pheasant hunt. For more information visit:  http://www.gcfng.com/youth/youthhunt.html

Youth Hunter Education Clinic (YHEC)

NRA is announcing a recruitment effort for clubs to put on a Youth Hunter Education Clinic (YHEC). See the following for information on the YHEC program and how to get your club involved.

 YHEC Logo

My name is Eddie and I am the Program Coordinator for NRA's Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC). YHEC is a nationwide hunter education program that was created in 1985 to get more kids interested in hunting and to provide them with a safe environment to develop and improve upon marksmanship, hunting, outdoor and safety skills. YHEC events are held all over the country for one or two days as kids 18 and under compete in up to eight shooting and responsibility events under simulated hunting situations. There is ZERO cost to the NRA to host a YHEC and we provide you with marketing and logistic support as well as event materials such as animal paper targets, t-shirts, Hunter's Guides, bags, scorebooks and more for free. Grants are available through the NRA to help with funding and if you qualify as the official state YHEC event, the NRA will give you $10 for every participant.

Seneca Co Pheasants Forever Youth Pheasant Hunt

Seneca Co Pheasants Forever held a youth pheasant hunt on a very rainy October day. Pictured is Hayden Tiell, ORPA trustee Don Hunter with two of his English Springer Spaniels and another youth.  Both of these youths bagged pheasants that day and about 43 youths participated that day. These events help preserve Ohio's hunting by introducing youths into hunting. The youths talk positive about their experience to school friends, to family and make postings on facebook. The positive impact is far reaching as many youths have numerous friends, relatives and hundreds of facebook friends.
