CMP M-1 Carbine Sales

ATTENTION ALL ORPA MEMBERS-- Several Officers and Trustees have lately been deluged with requests regarding purchasing M-1 Carbines from the CMP. This is apparently due to information published on the CMP website regarding availability of carbines.

The carbine program had historically been a DCM program for clubs for loaner guns to be used in training. The program changed when the CMP was separated from the Department of the Army. The requirements for purchase of a carbine are different than those for purchasing an M-1 Garand. This is still technically a club program, not an individual program. The association must actually vouch for the member and the association must know the owner and location of the rifle for one year. With a membership as large as we have it is impossible for us to be able to vouch for every member. We also feel that to pick and choose individuals is not fair to the entire membership.

After discussion at the Trustee meeting on March 31, It was adopted that the official policy of the Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association will be to refer all members requesting verification for the purchase of an M-1 Carbine to apply for such verification to their local CMP-affiliated club. Please do not ask The ORPA to vouch for you to purchase a carbine. We must with regret deny the request.
