Stephen Craig Swihart, age 75 of Upper Sandusky died at Fairhaven Health Care Community at 9:47 a.m. on Wed. Jan. 5, 2011.

He was born Feb. 18, 1935 in Harpster to the late Stephen P. and Anna P. (Dahmer) Swihart.

Craig married Carol E. Walters on Aug. 22, 1954, she preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 2009. Surviving are sons Stephen (Linda) Swihart Jr., Upper Sandusky, Chris (Gena) Swihart, Syracuse, IN and a daughter Nina Berry, Sevierville, TN, 8 grandchildren Amy Stewart, Matt Swihart, Tamie Mathew, Kyle Swihart, Anna Kimmet, Kara Fawcett, Christina Passet and David Passet, 13 great grandchildren, a brother Charles (Ginny) Swihart, Upper Sandusky. Preceding him in death is a sister Mary Frey.

Craig graduated from Harpster High School in 1954. He participated in baseball, basket ball and track, was a member of FFA and the National Honor Society.

Mr. Swihart was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was a retired lifelong Pitt & Antrim Townships farmer.

He was a charter member of Wyandot Co. Rod & Gun Club, was a lifetime member of N.R.A, also the O.R.P.A. Mr. Swihart was a NRA Safety instructor, he organized and operated civil marksmanship programs, former member of Wyandot County United Sportsman’s Gun Club and member of Ohio Big Buck Club.

He was past presiding officer of Warpole Lodge #176, McCutchen Chapter #96, Upper Sandusky Council #98, and Marion Commandery, #36. He was a Knight of the York Cross of Honour, a past patron of Warpole Chapter, #366 O.E.S., and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine.

Mr. Swihart enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, shooting and teaching at Camp Perry and sharing life stories.

Funeral services will be held Sat. Jan. 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Bringman Clark Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Trester officiating, burial will be in Little Sandusky Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Fri. Jan. 7, 2011 from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. A Masonic Memorial Service followed by an Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
